Summary Thoughts from a New Owner

Sorry for the length of the following. I’ve been quietly reading this forum for the last 12+ months reserving judgement until I got my hands on the car…

I took delivery of my Lucid Air 3 weeks ago. The car was wrapped and ceramic coated after I picked it up and I now have 400 miles on the car.

Hands down the car performs and rides better than any of the 3 BMWs or SL 55AMG I have owned. That speaks to the platform (aka hardware) and fundamental design and architecture. The car is quiet, smooth and responsive.

Having worked in s/w development for 40 years, I understand a bit about how complex software systems mature. Because of this, I may be more tolerant and patient of the issues others (and I) are experiencing. I am confident the car will get better and better. The kinks and bugs will be addressed. The car we will all be driving in 18 months will be far less quirky. Maybe we should expect better, but this is the way every new complex software product I have worked on, evolved and mature.

I have had no issues charging the car - I’ve used an Electrify America public charger, and a NEMA 14-50 outlet in my garage. The Lucid app was not sending notifications, but a Lucid employee recently told me to reset this by shutting all notifications off in the Lucid app, turning off notifications for the Lucid app on my iPhone, waiting 2 minutes and turning it all back on. Not sure yet if that fixed the issue. He did show me his iPhone and he had lots of “charging complete” notifications.

Yes the key fob constantly waking the car up when I have it in my pocket drives me crazy. I’ll probably need to replace the battery sooner than typical as a result. It’s a setting Lucid will eventually add to the app in my opinion.

I bought the car mats from Lucid. If you plan to drive the car in winter with snow, mud, ice, etc. these mats are not going to catch that stuff ala WeatherTec. But the Lucid mats look far better than WeatherTec. I won’t be driving the car in the winter, so all good.

I’ll stop now… Hopefully this has been helpful. A car company like Lucid must succeed to elevate the quality of the cars others build. As early adopters we are helping this happen. An industry dominated by Tesla, Ford, etc will guarantee mediocre cars at best.

Backbaytony,
Welcome to the ownership experience! I appreciate your candid post.

My experience has been mostly positive as well since taking delivery of my Air GT in December 2022. And I agree that the car performs and rides better than my other current vehicles (Lexus LS 500 & SC 430) and previous favorites BMW 750Li and Jaguar XJ.

Over the air updates have improved things incrementally and gives us a glimpse of what the future holds.

I actually love to see my Air wake up and say "drive me!"everytime I enter the garage with my iPhone, even if I plan to drive my RAM 1500 truck instead because the weather is bad (yes, I only drive my Lucid on sunny days so I don't have to wash it so often).

I haven't had issues with EA charging like other Lucid owners, but I have seen owners of other vehicle brands struggling at the same EA stations I am using even though I am not experiencing any problems.

I also like the Lucid mats over the Weathertech and based on my driving habits find they are more than adequate.

I know other owners have had serious issues with their cars and I am sympathetic, but it is refreshing to read positive posts like yours. I trust that Lucid will continue to offer improvements to the driving experience and I hope they have a successful launch of the Gravity sooner than later. Their stock needs some good news!

I’ll chime in. I picked up my Air GT in mid-April, and it’s been a dream. I’ve had no issues apart from having to do a couple of reboots, which being a long-time Tesla owner, I’m quite used to. A month later, I’m still excited to take it out for a drive and coming up with myriad reasons to do so.
I've had an Air GT since mid-December and I absolutely love it. I like it so much that when my husband wrecked my first one, I bought a second one. Like billvb, we look for reasons to go out and drive it all the time, and have discussions about who gets to drive it that day. It's been decades since I had a car that's made me this happy. I haven't had any real issues with mine, only had to do a couple of reboots that fixed things immediately. Maybe I'd feel different if I had. For some reason, this Lucid board is overwhelmingly negative, to the point that I seldom read it any more.

It is sometimes difficult to read (and at times believe) some of what is posted. I’m certain most of what is posted is factual and I’m sure there are some on this Forum to dissuade people from Lucid. Whether they are Tesla employees, or people shorting the stock... who knows.

Since my original post, I’ve now scheduled a charging session to start at 10pm when the electric rates in my area are lower (they actually drop from 9pm - 7am). The scheduled charge worked just fine and as advertised. I stopped at 70% so the next day I could plug in at a public charger (a Siemens charger at a country club) and ensure that still worked. I pre-conditioned, plugged in and 75 minutes later, I was at 80%.

I continue to not get notifications from the Lucid app. While Lucid folks have tried to help me, so far everything I have tried does not work. I’m hesitant to delete the app and install a new one simply because something else that is currently working may stop, and the notifications are a “nice to have”. They’ll fix it eventually…

earlier today there was an upgrade to the Lucid app from the Apple App Store, but there was no mention that notifications were fixed. I upgraded to that version, so we shall see…
