Hello all, I am a Tesla Model (Ludicrous) X owner, and have the Pure (the basic version) on reserve. Selling the X for a few reasons.

Anyway, have a question or two. First, what is the fundamental difference tween the Pure and the Touring for maybe another $20G?? I know there is more horsepower, but besides that, what upgrade am I getting for $20G? Seems like a big bump for not a lot of benefit, but maybe I'm not getting the benefits of the upgrade?

Also, should I decide to go with the Touring, just in case, the down payments are refundable? and when do we expect the Touring and the Pure to deliver? I get the impression that my Pure might not be ready for two years?? And the Touring would be sooner, no?

Anyway, whether I get the Pure or the Touring, very excited!

:)

Hey @jordfid welcome to the forum!

From my understanding the difference between the Pure and Touring, not only does the Touring have more power it's dual motor AWD whereas the Pure is RWD single motor. The Touring has the polished finish and the Pure doesn't (it has a metal roof). The Touring has different wheel options (19, 20-standard, and 21 inch options) than the Pure does (19-standard and 20 inch wheels). As far as tech goes it's not as clear as to what, if any, the differences are. The price to reserve the Air is refundable if that's what you mean.

How come you're switching from your Model X?

Thanks for sharing! I wonder how much sooner the Touring will be as against the Pure, six months?? Like I said, I get the impression that the Pure won't be out for another two years, but maybe I'm wrong.

To be honest, when I bought the used X from TEsla, I assumed, yes, assumed that the second row of seats would fold down in addition to the third row. Wrong. So the storage is not great, and my car would be good for a family with kids, with the three rows. The car is excellent, plus the novelty of the Ludicrous has kind of worn off, so was just a mistake and fortunately like most cars, it's appreciated in price over the past year. And while waiting for the Pure, I might get an S, dunno.

It won’t be 2 years for the Pure. Yes for the project Gravity SUV (likely 2-1/2 or 3 years), but not for a Pure if you reserved today. According to the investor presentation, Lucid projected a production of 20k cars in 2022. As the reservation list is likely only at 15k, every car reserved by today should be delivered next year - again according to their projections. And the reservations are refundable. even at 15,000 on the list, there will be many ahead who cancel. While I never believe the projections, they certainly should hit up to 15k. Expect late Q3 or early Q4.

As for differences, the other post summed it up pretty well. Primarily single motor rear wheel drive rather than dual motor all wheel drive. No glass canopy option. Only one interior choice, Mojave Purluxe, limited options for advanced tech. Range should be about the same.

I know this is subjective, but would you pay the extra $20G for the Touring? I'm unclear that the extras are worth $20G and i gather that if i were to see both and drive both, I might see it,,.

I’ll add the the Pure DOES have a dual motor all wheel drive option. But the additional cost is unknown at this time.

Yes, it is subjective. I reserved a Grand Touring and have been trying to see if I really want to pay that much more than for a touring. They called me and asked if I wanted to upgrade to a Dream and, after talking with the sales associate, I decided that it was NOT worth it to me to go that direction. I’m still thinking about going down to a Touring.

i would say the main difference is the dual motor all wheel drive. If one wants better traction in snow or bad weather, that might make a difference. I would reserve one to get on the list. Then wait as test drives become available and more pricing as to options are released. That would happen once it gets closer to production of those versions. You can always change your mind, upgrade or downgrade until the time they are ready to lock in your purchase.
Unfortunately, no one knows what the exact differences are between the GT, T, and P trims. I've asked sales and they don't know. What gets decontented from the GT to get to the T (other than surreal sound and dream drive pro)? For the T and P trims, sales would only commit to having heated front seats - they don't know if they will be ventilated or have massage. Apparently, Lucid still hasn't told sales what is strictly dream drive vs pro and what we will get if we don't opt for surreal sound. One additional difference that wasn't listed by "lucid dreams" is the P only comes with Purluxe interior right now. T has the option of adding the glass roof while P does not (right now).

Also, no one knows when production will begin on the T and P trims. Lucid indicated that each trim will be produced sequentially, not concurrently to satisfy reservation holders. So I would guess that the T trim will be produced before the P. Lucid has not broken down the 13,000 reservations by trim so we are just guessing about time tables. If they average 10 dreams/day, then 52 days gets us to January before GT trim starts production. People have guessed that Lucid actually started producing some GTs for demos/tests/marketing at the beginning of production. When they get to T and P trim depends on how quickly they ramp up the number of cars produced each day but Lucid indicated they want to fulfill all the reservations in 2022.

How Lucid interweaves reservations for Canada/Europe/Middle East in the production cycle also is unknown. They are going to have to produce Dream Editions for each of those regions and a couple of publications have indicated sales are supposed to start in 2022 in those regions. Makes sense since there are 13,000 USA reservations and Lucid wants to produce ~22,000 cars in 2022.

I originally reserved the Pure too but couldn't get over how the ceiling looked so opted to go with the T to get the glass roof option.

I personally don't think it is. We're already getting a lot of car for the money with just the base model.
But it might be worth comparing them in person to help justify massive margin.

well, in Florida we don't have much snow, but we do have some heavy rains...

maybe you're right, upgrade to the Touring, and decide many moons from now when we can test drive and compare...

Do you have a timing issue as to when you want or need the car? The Touring will be delivered earlier than the Pure and most of the 15k or so reservations will be for the Pure.
thanks all, I upgraded to the Touring!
