Wheel Tire Car Land vehicle Vehicle

Hey Lucid'ers,

My name's Kevin Williams, an automotive journalist at numerous places, including Autoguide. I was invited to the launch of the Lucid Air Grand Touring, and Grand Touring performance. Lucid's flying me from not-so-chilly Columbus, Ohio, to probably colder San Fransisco to tootle around in this big, glamorous sedan. I'll be flying out this Thursday, July 14.

If you've got any questions for me, about the car, or the trip, don't hesitate to ask!

(Technically driving impressions are embargoed until July 18, but please ask - I'll address it in the review, or here.)

Nice! This is going to be a fun thread.

My first question is not really on topic, but I'm always curious about the kind of place they set you up in and what they feed you.

Welcome to the forum @KevinWAutoJourno and thanks a lot for doing this!

We've had a lot of people on here talking about how hot the Air's roof can get in hot weather. Is there anything Lucid is planning on doing to address this concern among owners? The only solution seems to be owners coating/wrapping the glass themselves.

@fdmiller @steveinarizona @volvo544 in particular would love some info about this.

Hey @KevinWAutoJourno. I really appreciate you doing this for the community.

With software in these cars being a bit behind on the times, if you can find out about updates in the works to improve it, that would be great. It's the one area that Tesla is truly winning at and I think Lucid and other EV automakers need to catch up.

Please ask about:
Previously damages cars being delivered (see YouTube video from Chicago Auto Pros for background)
When 19 inch wheels with summer tires can be ordered
When 19 inch wheels with winter tires can be ordered as a spare set
When front and rear matching color seats can be ordered, eliminating having to order a theme, ex getting brown leather with walnut trim and black carpets
when a body color or black roof can be ordered instead of the stainless for cars with the pano roof
when more paint colors like blue wil be available

Ha! I'll def be on here posting. It looks like my flight there is non-stop, straight to SFO. I'm hoping for good food and a clean bed, this is Lucid, after all!

Oh, wow. Didn't know this was an issue. I'll be sure to ask; they've got engineers on staff for the launch.

I personally am not a fan of glass roofs without shades. Biggest complaint of mine on the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2.

Hm. Behind in what way? What problems do you think I should keep an eye out for?

@KevinWAutoJourno this is what one former Tesla owner reported:

"I have Tesla Y, X Plaid, and S plaid. And I got a new Lucid 2 weeks ago Grand Touring. Great a luxurious car, software needs a lot of work. Simple things that continually bog down software-wise. I feel like they need to do a lot of work to make this an enjoyable car tech-wise. It is fast and a great car to drive, but for the cost, this is not there."

There has been some other members here saying the software could be improved.

Mornin, y'all, from crappy airline Wi-Fi at 10,000+ feet. My iMiEV is parked, and I'm en route to Sillicon Valley to check out the Lucid Air. View attachment 1471

Luckily my flight is nonstop, so see y'all in about 4 ish hours!
Have fun in California checking out the Air! Can't wait to hear about how it goes.

On another note, how has the i-Miev been treating you? How long have you had it for?

OK, so, super late check in. Lucid gave us a super cool tour of the design studio, and fed us a pretty swanky dinner.

Unfortunately, they were pretty strict with the no photos thing. Ugh. (Literally, i had tape on my cameras)

Day two starts tomorrow, full of more questions, and I’ll finally get to drive the cars then.
