Features in need of fixing for the next OTA update

Here are my 10 comments for Lucid after 1 week with the car. I am sure I will have many more as time goes on. I HOPE LUCID IA LISTENING!

1. VERY URGENT! The backup/forward cameras are completely useless. I think the system adds graphics to the picture which make it impossible to see objects in the path. As a matter of fact, this system probably would not pass inspection because if you put a stroller behind the car, the graphics will completely cover it up! Also the "Drone" camera is useless for the same reason. It should be fixed urgently!
2, Not as urgent but important. Because of the unusual difficulty to get in and out of the car (due to the thick, low door pillars), the seats should be made to move all the way back and down when the cars is shifted to Park. When shifting to D or R the seats should move to the profile-programed position. Better yet, the car should remember an "access" position for the driver to program an access position (I want the seat all the way down, my wife does not, but sorry to say this, so far she hates the car and does not want to drive it, period).
3. Nice to have. The car now "welcomes" you with 4 weird beeps that sound like "get the hell out of here". I would like it to welcome me a pleasant sound or no sound. Make the welcome sound programable.
4. The car does not recognize my phone unless the Lucid app is active in the foreground. This makes it 100% useless. Revise the app so the car would recognize the phone also when the app is not running, not even in the background.
5. The instrument panel should show some logical order with graphics that draw the eyes to what's important. Currently it's just a collection of numbers at random order. Not very impressive. The instrument panel should:
a. show battery charge level in %, kWh and miles, not just %, and in much much larger fonts.
b. show trip statistics including miles, miles/kWh, hours traveled, average speed (why the hell not? the car has these stats in its computer already)(choice of trip A, B, or since last charge)(in Europe they may want kWh/100 km)(make it programable if you think some people would not want it).
c. I have never seen it in cars but I often want to see acceleration rate in either miles/sec/sec or miles/hr/sec.
d. show the kW gauge with a scale, not just a white smear that goes left/right. Show the gauge also when using cruise control!!! (though I find it nice that it does not show "0" (vertical) at standing as the car is consuming power)
6. Not urgent but would be nice to take out icons that are not used in "glass cockpit" (Auto high, ahto low).
7. Allow 1 function to show on the right screen of the cockpit and another on the panel. E.g. Navigation in the cockpit, music in the panel.
8. Currently moving a function from the cockpit to the panel requires a very specific swipe that requires full attention of the driver (instead of paying full attention to the road!), especially when the "swipe bars" do not show on the cockpit (e.g. in the navigation screen). Instead of swipe, make a "DOWN" arrow to move the function to the panel, and UP arrow to move it out of the panel.
9. VERY IMPORTANT! Move the icons from the bottom of the panel (Vehicle, HVAC, Settings, Parking) to the left of the panel or to the top (as a top row of icons). The icons are hidden behind the coffee cups and are very hard to reach while driving. This takes the attention of the driver for unreasonable period of time. This is DANGEROUS (and stupid).
10. In creep mode and low regenerative breaking, the car can roll forward or backward, depending on the slope of the road. It should act like the creep of an ICE car. Now it acts like Neutral, not creep.

Please add you own comments, and comment on mine. It's the best way to get Lucid to listen.

Ha ha, I already have 2 more:
11. Rewrite the manual to include ALL the functions of the car (even if it's redundant!). E.g. I shouldn't find how to use auto-high beam from the Forum, I should find it in the manual. Make the manual SEARCHABLE and include a detailed serious index.
12. Before the hood and trunk close make a warning sound and a pause as it is in 99.9% of the cars on the road.

#2 and #4 I agree with
Good suggestions!
But how and where can we send these directly to Lucid? Other than my local Service Tech, I haven't found a way to provide "Owner Feedback" beside Forums that Lucid probably doesn't monitor.

My comments:
2) I totally agree! I immediately questioned why the seat memory profile doesn't have an "Easy Exit/Entry Setting". Both of my Lexus's do it, my BMW does it, even my 2017 Ram 1500 does it.
4) I don't have problems with the Car recognizing my phone when the APP is closed. It could be an issue with the settings in your Lucid APP or your phone's Bluetooth. I just tested it again to make sure. I have an iPhone 13 ProMax, not the latest, but not that old either. But, I do have the Widget on my Widget screen, so maybe that is a possible reason why it works???
7) Yes, this one is a must! Incidentally, it happens to me randomly where I selected NAV in the Cockpit, but it won't open in the Bottom screen at all. I had to shut the car down to get it to work as designed.
8) The swipe is "cool" until it doesn't work and you keep swiping over and over. In some screens, it is hard to tell if swiping is available of not. Scrolling also doesn't work everytime. So adding arrows would be a good solution.
9) I think it would be good to provide "Options" for where to put Icons, which Icons to show or hide, etc. My 2017 Ram 1500 lets me configure what shows on the both screens (cockpit and multimedia) and what doesn't.
10) I haven't had any issues with creep mode yet, but I have seen other complaints in the Forum, so hopefully they are tweaking it.
11) Yes, provide a fully unabridged version of the manual that gets updated with every OTA and includes more details about OTA updates. Include a "coming soon" section so we know what Lucid is working on for upcoming OTA's!!

Allow me to add some (and feel free to explain if any are features that already exist and I haven't figured out the access yet):

13) When I open the Garage Door and start to pull out, the cameras take over the screens. To close the door after I exit the garage, I have to 1) Close the Camera View on the Cockpit panel, 2) Select the Home Icon, 3) Close the Garage Door. Same issue when approaching. Even though the car knows I'm approaching the Garage and displays the "Open Door" command, if I forget to open it and put the car in reverse, the "Open Door" command disappears and the camera views open. I have to go through the steps above to open the door. Or even if I remember to open the Garage Door first, once I park inside, I can't close the Garage Door without going through the 3 steps above. The car knows when I am in proximity of the Garage. Why can't the Door Open Command stay visible on the Cockpit Screen somewhere until I close the door and drive away, or until I pull into the garage and close the door, then put the car in park.

14) I haven't researched this yet, and it is probably because this is my first foray into the EV world, but it seems to me like the car should begin a "power down sequence" when you put it in park, unbuckle the seat belt, and open the drivers door. Instead, it gives you the feeling you have left the car "running" when you get out. If you lock the car, it starts the power down sequence. If you walk away with your phone and/or key fob, it starts the power down sequence. But it seems to me that it should start a little sooner. I feel like I have to stand there and watch it to make sure it goes completely into sleep mode.

15) The "Shock & Tilt Alert" setting in the APP is great but it doesn't go far enough. Allow us to access the car's camera system from the APP. Provide the option to notify me if someone approaches the vehicle, and allow "2-way communication" with them. (Like the Ring App) Also, allow me to control the full Panic Alarm remotely, not just flash the lights or honk the horn, but do both. This is a safety feature that would be very helpful and potentially ward off criminals or vandals.

16) Since SiriusXM is an App (and not a full fledged Radio), I'm not sure if this is doable or not. My Ram 1500 has a feature that if I hear a song track or artist playing that I like, I can mark the song and/or artist as "favorites". The number of Favorites in the list seems to be pretty unlimited. and it is editable. The cool part is, whenever one of the favorites (whether a song or an Artist) is playing on "any channel", an alert pops up and I can select it to switch to that channel and play the favorite track.

17) Also, it would be nice if the Artist's Album Art was displayed during each song instead of just the Channel Logo. Again, I'm spoiled by my Ram 1500!

18) Include a "coming soon" section on the APP or in the Owners Manual so we know what Lucid is working on for upcoming OTA's!

Welcome to the forum. I think those two are what many can agree on. What phone brand and model are you using?

I also side with points on variety of read outs like %, kWh and miles, not just %, but some might disagree on that. It has to be among the easiest things for Lucid to work on.

Yes, Lucid should make all these features programmable and save them in your profile. So if your wife does not want to see all the gibberish on the screen, she does not have to (though my wife does not want to even drive the car).
Good suggestions!

thank you for your comments. In my naivete I thought "of course Lucid is reading the Forum, why won't they?" But YOU, in one short sentence brought me all the way down to earth. So when I feel that the "conversation" is not getting any longer, I will make an effort to bring it to Lucid as high as I can. I hope we will succeed (I will try to enlist Youtubers like Kyle from Out of Spec and Doug Demuro.
My solution to your point 13 is to have several custom buttons on the right end of the cockpit. The user can program the door opener or anything else in one of the custom buttons. I was also disturbed by your #13, except that when returning home the car always has the garage opener ready for me to press. I would prefer to have the option for the car to automatically open the door because i almost always drive right in or at least go in the house through the garage. this can be made customizable.
I am not sure if #14 is just a matter of getting used to. I also have never had a car behaving like this. I have to live with it longer before I can say if it's a problem.
#15. what is Shock & Tilt? I have the feeling that the guy that instroduced me to the Lucid really did not know the car well and did a very bad job. He didn't even set up my phone, so they had to send a tech to do it, but also he did not do it right so my phone connects only the the Lucid app is active. From various replies I see that this is specific to my situation.
#16, 17, I don't use Sirius because they are faily weak with classical music. so I cannot comment, but it is for Lucid to comment, not me. I will just send them all the comments and hopefully have them respond or implement all of them.
I like #18. Yes indeed. they can include it in every update.
See less See more
#14 When I open the door to exit, a message on the cockpit screen does say: Don't forget your keys", but the radio is still playing, the cockpit is still lit up; It just seems like I am leaving the car "running" when I get out of it. But, I guess I'll get used to it.
#15 Open the App, open the Menu in the top left corner, select "Settings", then "Safety & Security" turn on "Shock & Tilt Alert" and then select the desired notification option.
If someone collides with your vehicle, or tries to tow it, or jack it up to remove the wheels, etc. the Alarm will sound and send you a notification.
#16, #17 - Classical Music is lacking on the Radio Version, but since Lucid is using the App, there are a couple of "extra channels" available on the App that you might want to explore.

I am waiting for parts and accessories to come in for my car, so when they arrive, I will have a conversation with the Service Tech about the proper and "most effective channel" for Customer Feedback.

A lot of "Feedback" I have read on Forums and elsewhere have been posed more so as complaints and even critical rants. Some even call the car a "Beta". I think that is a dramatic overstatement. I love the car as it is, despite the issues discussed in your post and subsequent posts. The fact that most of this "can" be addressed and improved over time with OTA's is an incredible benefit that very, very few automobiles offer, or any other products for that matter. We are early adopters, but we aren't stuck with version 1. Air Dream Edition Owners have already experienced tremendous improvements. SInce my car was delivered on December 4th, I haven't experienced any of the big problems that owners reported in early 2022. That gives me the confidence to be patient while Lucid Engineers continue to address feedback.

It would be great if Lucid would send out a survey periodically that describes what they are working on and allow our input to shape to final enhancements. I am on the Lexus Advisory Board and I get one or two surveys each month about new features they are considering. They often include videos and storyboards to describe the features and allow you to vote and comment on each aspect. As a long time Lexus Owner, I have always appreciated their approach to Customer Service and Customer Interaction. Hopefully Lucid is working on their "playbook" to include more Customer Interaction as they continue to grow.

Re: 8). Swiping to move item from the driver to pilot panel. I also had problems with the “swipe” feature. I watched a Lucid tech simply touch the top of the Pilot screen and it did the same as the “swipe”. Since then, I have not swiped. Simply touching the top of the screen completes the swipe. Much easier and more reliable for me.

11. Windshield wipers Auto Hi setting needs to be better.
It doesn't recognize when wipers should wipe until you can't see a thing.
And in heavy rain it doesn't wipe fast enough.

I'm not seeing the issue....? I find the backup camera and the drone camera very useful.

But my biggest complaint is the lack of Android Auto (or CarPlay).

My second biggest complaint is that the floating screens show the same info. I want Nav on one screen and music and the other, not Nav and More Nav.

#10 is my concern too. I have talked to lucid multiple times about this. So far, they don’t seem to agree it is a problem. It is rather a design choice lucid made. I guess when more people are reporting this, they may have a change of mind.
Oh, another peeve, so, what are we up to...? 15? The guess-o-meter (GOM) is the worst I've ever used. Was there even an an attempt at estimating range? Or is the miles remaining simply a linear interpolation of the EPA range times the battery state of charge percentage?

For example, the GOM is wholly unaware of topography along the planned route.

1/13/2003 I just received my first Lucid Customer Service Survey last night (almost 6 weeks after delivery). I told them about my delivery experience and provided some positive feedback about the issues in this post. I challenged them to respond personally to my comments. We will see what happens.

Great thread all. I especially agree with 2, 7-15. As for #10 being a design choice, HOGWASH! It is a serious safety issue. If they don't want to change it, simply rename it Neutral. However, it would be nice to have a Creep mode that acts like an ICE vehicle.

Maybe its just me (or my specific vehicle), but #19--Make it possible to raise the steering wheel more. I literally have to duck to see the upper right and upper left of my screens.

I really hope Lucid reads our comments....

I observed the same thing, but I am not sure how they can improve it. Example, they can't predict how much regen braking you might do, so the range will constantly be adjusting. My ICE vehicles do the same thing. Wednesday I drove my truck because I needed to get "gas" before the potential for snowy weather returned. When I left the house, I had 34 miles of range. I drove especially frugal and by the time I got to the Shell station 9 miles away, I had 38 miles of range. I am using the percentage scale instead of range, since I'm only driving short commutes right now. Is anyone doing road trips that can provide more insight?

I really like this thread and hope it gets to Lucid! I agree wholeheartedly with all of the comments and am particularly peaved at the lack of a decent manual to explain my car's functions to me! I also am a bit mobility challenged and would love the car to "let me out" when I put the car in park (like our Tesla does).
?19.) I would add the need for an easy "reset" mechanism. (on our Tesla, you hold the two buttons on the steering wheel for a few minutes and the computer reboots). I need this for the occasional "stuck" voice commands or non-responding screens.

yeah. I explained to them that this is a safety issue. When more lucid are on the road, someone may run into an accident if they are not aware of this. Specially, these first time EV users. I plan to shoot another video today to capture the back rolling on my driveway and shoot to them.

as far as the solution, they can do the same thing as Porsche. The Taycan will apply auto brake hold the moment it detects back rolling. So if creep does not have enough torque to counter the gravity, it will never go opposite direction as the drive selector.
