Can't get full charge at new Electrify America chargers-is there a limit?

Hi all,
I did search and didn't see this question posted, so feel free to redirect me if this has been brought up already. I have a Zenith Red Air Grand Touring with 1,000 miiles on it now.

I am fortunate to live within 3 miles of a newly updated Electrify America charging station with 8 brand new Hyperfast 350 kw chargers. Last week, I was excited to go and get my free "fill-up". I was happy to see the authentication work perfectly and I started charging at a very speedy clip, going from 11% (55 miles or so) to 61% (318 miles) in 50 min. I started at 11 miles of charge/min but on average over the session got 5 miles of charge per minute. However, the charge got progressively slower and slower finally slowing to 0.2miles/hour with the time to complete charging steadily going up and up. It appears that I could wait forever and never get to 80% charged.

So I stopped and moved on. I returned yesterday and the exact same thing happened, Rapidly charged my car to 60%, then slowed to eventually nothing. I thought maybe I had hit a limit of some sort, so I unplugged and replugged in hoping to resume some reasonable charge rate. It looked like I might get to 11 miles/hour charging but it rapidly went back to essentially not charging showing the charge rate to 0.2 miles/hour and 0.8kW of power being delivered. I waited about 10 min and replugged again with the same result.

I can't take advantage of my wonderful range if I can't get a full charge. So I went home and plugged into our home charger and quickly topped up to my 400 miles or 80%.

Does anybody know why this might be happening or how I can actually get a "full tank" at one of these stations? All input is welcome for this EV newbie.

Thanks,
Laureen

it is NOT you! I am finding that Electrify America is terrible at trying to charge my lucid air grand touring.
I initially plug in and It only gets to150 kWh, never even close to 350 kWh. Whether I precondition or not Within minutes it drops to single digits, 9 kWh and lower. Today I had it plugged in for a couple hours and it is charging at .9 kWh. I would not doubt that since we are getting free charging at electrify America’s stations they are doing this on purpose. I have made several calls to Electrify America to alert them of this problem, but nothing seems to get done. This particular location has been an issue since November 1, 2022.
What concerns me is when we drive back north in the spring that a normal one day trip will turn into four days just because of charging times. Something’s got to give.
Thanks,
Darryl

On multiple occasions I've used EA chargers in Port St. Lucie FL. They're supposed to be 350kw chargers. I've never been able to pull more than 154kw, & that decreases at 60%.
Sadly, this experience seems to be the norm for EA chargers. I received my Air GT on Dec 28 in San Diego and left to drive to DC on the 30th - so I‘ve now used numerous EA chargers across the 11 states we drove through - none give the stated KW from the chargers. And worse, one charger (Bristow OK) had NO functioning chargers and the next one (Vinita, OK) only had 1/8 working chargers (that was a long day…). While charging at Tysons Corner yesterday, I went into the Lucid store in the mall. One of the staff stated that the max ‘intake’ charging rate was 110kW - but I’ve rarely seen over 100kW at any charger. Roughly, I see less than half the ‘posted’ charging rate - usually about 1/4. 50-60kW from a 150KW charger is much as I’ve seen (but this isn’t too bad as it gives about 5-7mile range/min). However, basically Electrify America are the weak link in Lucid’s world - they are a league behind Tesla in reliability. Lucid’s customer service told me that over half the calls to them were for EA ‘issues’.

The most I have been able to charge with traveling is 469 miles, have never got 500 miles, even when car was new. Check to make sure you phone app is not limiting the charge on the car. I can't think of anything else. I live in the south, so have not had to condition battery.

I'm able to get a full charge to 515 miles total on a 150 kWh charger.
But like you said, it starts at 4 miles/min and tapers off to 40 miles/hr toward the end.

I heard that Tesla opened their chargers to others, will Lucid owners still get free charging there or at other providers?
I noticed here in SoCal, we hv a couple other providers, but not sure it's free.

Right now there are a few Tesla chargers equipped with the Chadmo charger. The problem is that the cables are two short. Also you will be charged outside of EA charging station that includes Tesla EVgo etc.

Nothing is ever “free.” The manufacturers who offer free charging pay a fee to EA and like all others, it’s a profit based contract. I’d bet there’s a heated discussion going on between the two. There’s no reason for Tesla to pay for electricity from a provider then offer it for free.

Keep in mind that if you've got the 21" wheels on there that the most you'll see is 469 miles @ 100% SOC. If you changed them to the 19" wheels (and called Lucid Mobile Service to program your vehicle to acknowledge the 19" wheels) that you should then see 516 miles available at 100% SOC. I really like that on my Model S I can simply go into the UI and change the wheels myself and the computer will make the adjustments necessary to reflect the correct information. I guess the good news here is when I spoke with my Chicago Service Center they did advise that their Mobile Service Team would come out and reprogram the vehicle to reflect the correct wheels and that there would be no charge to do this. Would however, like to see Lucid's software team catapult to Tesla's level of software updates and not lag about 3 years behind. Simply copy what they're doing, and who cares that you weren't the first to come to market with that idea. At least that's my opinion.

Also have same issue with EA chargers and a Lucid AGT. Never got more than 175kWh after over a year. And I precondition or would be less especially in winter. However, what is different is I have never seen such low final rates as some here. If you google EV charging, you will see all EV batteries slow the charge rate esp after 50% so not a Lucid issue. But mine never goes below 60kwh or so and easily fills the 80%. I doubt it is the car. EA chargers are very flaky. I once switched from a 350 to a 150 and got BETTER charge rate. Go figure.

I totally agree. Here is an airtcle from Europe explaining the problems with EA charging network. Why are so many EV chargers broken?
Electrify America plain and simple is poor build quality and something I certain VW rushed through just to meet their DieselGate EV Charging Stations obligation. I'm in the Chicago area and there's ONLY 1 charging station that is capable of 350 kW within a 60 mile radius of it, all the others are limited to 150 kW. And of course, it's in a ghetto suburb (Joliet) that one should be VERY aware of their surroundings AT ALL TIMES while charging there. In addition, I have gone out of my way numerous times to charge at that location in the hopes of pulling even close to 350 kW with the batteries warmed up and between 20% - 80% SOC (ideal charging conditions) and even then the best I pulled was 260 kW and that was ONLY once. The rest of the time there were all sorts of limited charging issues. And in one of the busiest West Chicago Burbs on the screen it's been saying something along the lines of: "Charging speeds have been limited at these stations due to some upcoming upgrade" or some jazz like that. Well, it's been nearly 2 months now and it's still saying the same 🤬'ing thing. Having to be limited only to EA stations with my Air GT while traveling really sucks and doesn't make me feel confident at all that I could make the trek from Chicago to see my pals in San Diego without some notable issues happening along the way. I'm really hoping that Tesla picks up the pace with their "Magic Dock" which would then nullify my Cross County traveling/charging concern with my Lucid.

I have had ro call the help number yesterday as I consistently got error messages eventually I had to move to another station with a blacked out screen thT I was informed was working. It worked but at limited energy. I left went it got down to 47kw at 300 miles. 250 from them. They don't take care of the stations. I never had any problems less at any tesla charging station and I drove cross country 2x
