I have an order for a lucid gt however after test driving a bmw i7 I am seriously considering canceling my order. The interior and build quality seem better than the lucid. Also the tech seems to be on par or better than the lucid. I am not sure which car to buy

Welcome to the forum @Pharmer. Does the Lucid Air being more of a drivers car than the i7 matter to you? If not then the i7 might be the better choice.

Did BMW let you drive it around enough to really get a feel of its driving dynamics, etc.?

Have you had the chance to check out an Air?

I haven't driven the I7 but did a test drive of a 7 series at the BMW auto event last year. The I7 is a lot longer than the Lucid Air. If you are inclined to go for the I7, make sure it will fit in your garage.

I prefer a smaller vehicle so the I7 is not in my list of possible cars. But if that size is okay with you, I suspect that it will be a great vehicle. BMW really knows how to make a car handle well. The Grille, while bigger than I would prefer, at least does not resemble Bugs Bunny's face.

One of the potential advantages of the BMW is its dealer network IF YOU HAVE A GOOD DEALER NEARBY. Good loaners, etc. On the other hand, there are some BMW dealerships that you want to avoid like the plague.

The I7 will be more luxurious. The Lucid will handle better.

Not a good comparison. Lucid beats BMW in most every metric.

I am a BMW driver and do like the way they handle. I am sure that the I7 will be a great driver's car. But in my mind, they are not comparable. The I7 is 16" longer than the Lucid. Put differently, the Lucid and the BMW 5 series (like my 530e) are about the same size.

For me, and everyone is different, the I7 is simply too big.

We used to compare the handling of all other cars to BMWs. I am amazed that after Lucid, BMW is being compared to boats. I wouldn't go so far as to call a BMW 7 a boat (I own one, BMW 7 not the boat), but my Lucid beats the BMW in handling, hands down. The interior space in the BMW 7 seems more impressive at first glance, but then I realized that I have been trained to corollate the number of extra buttons around me to a better interior. My BMW has buttons for window shades, air ionizer and even buttons for various perfumes that it will release in the car. The back seat pops out an android tablet that lets you control multiple displays including adjusting the front seats from the back! The Lucid has a more minimalist approach without going overboard like the Tesla. For interior space, if the 35 inch TV in the back impresses you, BMW is the way to go, if you can settle for the 35 inch display in the front, the Lucid has you covered. :)

I have an i7 on order after canceling my Lucid reservation. I’m a firm believer in giving a new EV manufacturer a chance. After all I bought my Tesla model S in 09/2013 and I still love driving it! However, with Lucid there are way too many car issues to be comfortable let alone the financial viability of the company. If the Saudis decide to cut bait, the only way it could survive would be to be bought out. The legacy car manufacturers are all going to switch to EVs. In the luxury range we have Mercedes EQS, BMW i7, Porsche, Audi and many others. The i7 interior, exterior build quality is amazing. Car also drove well. Software is already proven as BMW is offering the tech in both their their EV and gas models. So you can count on true working software and not vaporware per future promises. So need I say more? There are ardent lovers of Lucid and I wish them well. After all, love is blind in all aspects of life.

So Tesla had fewer car issues and was more financially viable in 2013?

I had zero car issues other than learning how to use the various tech features. There was a learning curve on my part but the software worked flawlessly. As much as I cannot stand Elon Musk and his egocentric behavior, I have to say that he got the tech right from day one by having talented staff.

Then you were one of the lucky few in my opinion because I bought my Tesla MS P85D+ in 2015 and I had so many issues with that vehicle that at times it seemed I was driving their loaners more than I was driving my own. Granted, it was mostly hardware issues. However, a few times I had software issues that left me stranded on the side of the road in freezing temps more than once. At the end of the day, every 1st Gen Vehicle is always going to have a laundry list of issues that they'll need to work through. But I certainly wouldn't say that Tesla was any less riskier in 2013 than Lucid is at this moment.

And as far as the Saudis go, I would be EXTREMELY surprised if they were to bail on this investment. The should know very well that Lucid is going to be burning through cash for quite some time before they start turning a profit. At least I very well hope to the heavens that they are because I've got too much invested in these guys to see them fail now.

The way I see it... If they can survive through COVID, chip shortages, overall supply chain issues, Legacy Autos getting their EV's to market and they can get their Gravity out there in 2014 as they're predicting then I think they'll be ok at that point. At least I really hope so...

I love making longer road trips in my cars, so I really want to make sure I get my point across to fellow enthusiasts. Most cars including BMW and Merc have an approx 300 mile EPA range. We easily lose 100 miles of range on road trips because we drive over 70 mph and the weather is not 85 degrees. We also stop to re-charge with about 40 miles of charge remaining. 300 - 140 = 160 miles which is one stop in every 2 hours and 15 minutes of driving. My road trip will get so much longer if I stop every 2 hours for 45 minutes to only add 200 miles (can only fast charge to 80% and you already had 40 miles in the car). The math works so much better when starting with 400+ miles of range and making a 20 minute stop with the faster charging.

Tomorrow I will be headed to Knoxville, TN from Tulsa OK, about a 12 hour drive in gas powered cars. I will see how my 430 mile EPA estimated range Lucid Touring does on this trip including the dreaded EA charging stops. Wish me luck.
