Key fob is the bane of my Lucid

This car is solid, smooth and sexy. The range on my AGT is OK, but I'm not at the gas station any longer.

At this point the only major gripe I have is the key fob/car sensors. The unlock button doesn't open the car immediately, sometimes taking 30" or longer or not at all. It is repeatedly not found in the car during drives. The car senses it only when coming from the front right or (occasionally) the right rear. I dread walking up to my door to get in, only to wait like an imbecile for the car to respond. I can't wait for the Florida deluge thunderstorms to show up...

Same for me. The inconsistent ability to get into my car makes me crazy. A car this costly should not be a guessing game on let's try the phone key, nope - let's try the fob- nope let's try the card...meanwhile I am a lady alone in a parking lot looking like a target for purse snatchers and car jackers. Over the phone customer care had me delete my phone and fob. We repaired them and Bluetooth would not work to repair phone. Service came out and of course it all worked fine. Argh.

Absolutely agree with all the comments regarding getting into the damn vehicle.

1) doesn't sense the iphone or key fob.. takes forever to get the car unlocked.
2) if/when it finally does unlock, the seat position is always in the wrong position. Why doesnt the car sense which phone or fob is approaching and prepare according to the drivers that have been saved?? 1995 cars do this!
3) during driving, car often says "key not detected".. yes, i've changed teh batteries in the fobs several times.

Tesla gave us a 10 year head start.. whomever is responsible for entry issues shouldve been long fired at LUCID. Not acceptable for a car thats $!70k+!

Anyone ever get the sense that Lucid doesn't have people looking at this forum? The same little annoyances which should all be easy to fix. My big issue is getting my GT to be identified on an EA chaging station. I have at best a 10% success rate, what good is a vehicle for a long trip if you fear you may not be able to recharge in route? Is anybody listening?

I had a similar fob problem yesterday. I was able to unlock the car, but it gave me the Key Not Detected message and refused to go into gear. It then prompted me to enter my PIN on the Pilot Panel, but that was impossible as after two weeks and numerous resets my Pilot Panel will still not accept any entries until reset once again. I finally obtained the second fob, which worked fine. Go figure. I'm trying to maintain a positive outlook, but it's challenging.

Same issue for me as well. Key fob worked for 3 weeks and now both key fobs dont get recognized. Using mobile to login which takes up to 1 minute to open, once in a while even mobile does not work! Then it asks for PIN to drive sometimes, some times it does not ask for PIN. Sometimes it says key not found, sometimes it does not. So several inconsistent quirks related to the key fob. You need to drive to Millbrae to figure out stuff for every issue like this which takes nearly half a day. There are few more quirks like this in my first month like charging nozzle does not come off unless you fiddle around for 10 mins by doing trial & error, panel right side to the center console has just come off without anyone removing it and too difficult to put it in now, sometimes watch the road sensor dont work, sometimes the door automatically open & start the car when you walk around with fob and sometimes it doesnt. In spite of several quirks though, really like the car!!

I like to keep my key fob in close proximity to the car, so I now put it in an old lead film bag to keep the battery from running down. So far the battery has lasted for a few months, but that may be because I’ve only driven the car 425 miles due to computer and front suspension problems. I planned to drive it to Maine for our four month summer stay but didn’t trust taking it that far from home after the chronic electrical and mechanical problems. It’s a great car to drive when everything is working.

For an alternate experience, I have had my GT for almost 10 months and have put 12,500 miles on it. I use the fob almost exclusively. My fob battery seemed to fail within a few months and I got them to send me a battery. While I was waiting for the battery, the fob resurrected itself and I have yet to replace a battery in either fob. I put the fob in an SLNT Faraday key fob bag when I enter the house. But I do have to agree with the intermittent delay in the car opening and about once weekly key not recognized while in the car. Twice the car has shut down completely when the tilt alarm came on while I was parked and sitting quietly in it.

It's hard to understand how well-established tech like a key fob, used in basically every car on the highway, is such a problem for Lucid. After replacing multiple batteries in my fob and being frustrated by the fob's quirky functionality even with a fresh battery I now just leave it home and use the app on my phone.

I love my Lucid, but the Lucid fob is cheap and it looks cheap. It is difficult to function. Tesla did the fob right: you can open and close the trunk and the frunk, and you can move the car in or out of a tight spot by holding the middle of the fob down until the lights blink twice. Lucid, PLEASE give us the fob the car deserves! And make it look like it belongs to a nice car; simply presenting it in a nice little custom cardboard black box means nothing in the end--the box goes in a drawer at home. Yeah, and all that other stuff other fine Lucid owners said too!!!

I've had my Touring since December and have only had to change the battery on one of our two key fobs once. Fobs and phone work consistently well although I have had two or three occasions where the doors were slow to unlock (seconds slow). Since we purchased the car we have kept our fobs in Faraday pouches that we purchased on Amazon. This also helps when both my wife and I are carrying our keys and we want the correct profile to be recalled.

The trouble I continue to have is when the fob is out of the Faraday bag and is supposed to be doing its job: opening and closing the car. Which is does in a piss-poor manner. Its new favorite thing to do is to <finally> open the car, only to turn itself off and lock once I'm IN the car. At this point it is the only thing (for me) that is a distraction about this car .

Lucid is well aware that the key fob is universally hated. Even Motor Trend complained bitterly about it. For probably well less than $50 per they could replace them. It’s so damn frustrating and embarrassing to open one trunk when you are trying to open the other. And standing there like an idiot to boot (pardon the pun my English friends).

Universally? Hardly, ours are fine, works fine. No problems. I know I’ll get blasted by this comment but I can‘t go with the universally hated line as being the truth. Motor Trend is not a good source of anything about EV’s. Checked their article out and its complaint seems to be about needing batteries replaced often. Might be more a battery issue. We replaced batteries in our Apple AirTags recently. Talk about a quagmire…the Amazon purchased ones lasted maybe a week. So I purchased Duracell batteries. They didn’t work at all. A Google search showed Duracell had a safety bitter coating to keep kids from swallowing them. Used alcohol to remove the coating and all is well. My hunch is it has more to do with cheap batteries or replacements with the bitter coating.

As a relatively new owner of a GT I was puzzled about why the loaner GT they gave me had a spare fob battery with it and why when I picked up my car they made a big deal of telling me they replaced the fob battery. Then I came across this thread. Oh. Seems like such an own goal for such an easy fix to make everyone happy.

I like the idea of not carrying the key around, but I don’t use the phone app. My issue is whenever I’m around my car, it constantly unlocks then locks over and over until I move out of range. The only solution to not have this happen if you are around the car but don’t want it to unlock is to disconnect Bluetooth, which is inconvenient. I mentioned this to Lucid Support and was told that they have had many requests to have an easy way to temporarily disconnect Bluetooth from the car to avoid this.

By the way, it does the same thing with the key fob. However, I carry my phone everywhere and there are times I’m near my car and don’t want it to continuously unlock then lock. My key fob is with me only when I drive, I leave it out of range when I’m not.
